Synthesis and Characterization of K2[Ni(CN)4] , K3[Fe(C2O4)3] and Cu(acac)2 Complexes :: Lab Report

Synthesis and Characterization of K2[Ni(CN)4] , K3[Fe(C2O4)3] and Cu(acac)2 complexes(IV , V and VI) with different structures and Properties 1. Introduction The aim of this experiment was to synthesize HgCo(SCN)4 , [Ni(en)3]S2O3 , NiCl2(PPh3)2 , K2[Ni(CN)4] , K3[Fe(C2O4)3] and Cu(acac)2 but only K2[Ni(CN)4] , K3[Fe(C2O4)3] and Cu(acac)2 were synthesized and explained in this report. Characterization was then done on each of the 3 synthesized complexes by obtaining their UV-Vis spectrum. The UV-Vis spectrum of each complex would identify different properties and would help to explain the observations made when they were synthesized (for example their colour and how they reacted). 2. Method Table 1: Synthesis of K2[Ni(CN)4] Amount of Reagents used Method Observations NiSO4 †¢ 7H2O : 6.00 g KCN : 3.01g In 20ml water NiSO4 †¢ 7H2O was dissolved and the solution containing KCN (dissolved in 7ml water) was added to the Nickel solution. This solution was filtered and the precipitate was washed with small quantities of water. This precipitate was added to the solution of KCN (dissolved in 3ml of water). This solution was heated and swirled so that the crystals that formed dissolved. It was heated again and left so that crystals started forming again. This solution was then placed in an ice bath to enhance crystallization and the crystals were removed by filtration. The water was removed by drying the crystals in the oven at 100 °C. A small amount of the sample was dissolved in water and the UV-Vis spectrum was obtained. Nickel (II) sulphate hexahydrate was used in place of heptahydrate. When the precipitate was added to the KCN solution, it turned dark red. As it was heated it darkened even more but as the crystals started forming the colour changed to a light red. As the crystals dried more its colour changed from light red-orange to a light yellow colour. These crystals were dissolved in water for the UV-vis spectrum. The solution was a yellow colour. Table 2: Synthesis of K3[Fe(C2O4)3] Amount of Reagents used Method Observations (NH4)2Fe(SO4)2 †¢ 6H2O: 5.03g To a solution of (NH4)2Fe(SO4)2 †¢ 6H2O (dissolved in 20ml water) 1 ml of sulphuric acid was added and stirred. The oxalic acid (dissolved in 25ml water) was also added and this combined solution was slowly heated to boiling, resulting in the formation of yellow iron(II) oxalate precipitate. The liquid was decanted and 15ml of hot water was added again to the precipitate, this was stirred and filtered. The precipitate (iron(II) oxalate) was transferred to another beaker and a potassium oxalate solution (dissolved in 10ml hot water) was added.

C.S. Lewis: “We have No ‘Right to Happiness” Essay

In the essay C.S. Lewis claims that we the people within the world don’t have the right to happiness. Now why would he believe that we don’t? Surely, we have met people in our life’s here and there who we thought were either happy or not. But does that mean in Lewis’ essay that since â€Å"We have no right to happiness† that everyone in the world is miserable? Its ironic how nothing has changed in our culture since the time Lewis has wrote this short essay. I believe that people know how to be happy but they just feel like they â€Å"supposedly† have a good reason to not be satisfied with their lives. Society today makes â€Å"us† brainwashed thinking that we don’t have many rights to do certain things within our lives with all the music, media, and etc. When in reality we do have the right to make a stand and have our happiness be handed to. No one is to be felt like they can’t be happy because I strongly disagree on Lew is’ part for his title in the essay â€Å"We have no right to happiness† because I know that based on people’s life can be found happiness in many ways whether they find happiness in life, being rich, or love. Firstly, it just amusing that people misconstrue themselves thinking that they have the right to do whatever makes them feel happy. Even though, in the â€Å"Declaration of Independence† states that we are all equal and have rights to do what makes us happy, but to be honest it’s just all lies. For instance, in school our opinions in class shouldn’t affect our grades. That just shows you how the world just wants you to feel unhappy and that you have no right to speak up your mind. In reality, we truly don’t have equalizes in our own country which I feel it’s a shame because why doesn’t the world not want us to be happy? What we should have is balance in life in order to know what we know will make us happy. The major misunderstanding we the people have is thinking that we can steal, rape, murder people, and etc. Why? Because supposedly we can do whatever that makes us happy, despite the consequences? I feel like there should be limits when we talk about what can make us happy like doing the better deed instead of doing the bad deed that  isn’t the right to happiness. We have to remember good deed brings good karma within in yourself and you will be earned the happiness you deserve. Secondly, I find it really unfair how there are millionaires/celebrities who have all the money in the world and still aren’t †Å"happy† with themselves. Personally, if I were them I would be running around with joy in my big beautiful mansion that I bought. I mean if they deserved to be rich with so much money why not be happy? Therefore, you see celebrities overdosing themselves, and drinking till they can’t any more because they aren’t happy. For example, Brittany Murphy she died from an overdose with of course drug pills why? Honestly, we should all be grateful in the world that we have some sort of happiness to keep us alive because without it we’ll all be weak. In addition, for the people who drink away their problems does it help? Yes, when you’re drunk, but once you’re sober again the issue will always be there. Thus, we should always think twice before we act on whatever we’re doing. In reality, I truly believe that the rich are more depressed then the people who aren’t rich. Reason being, because they know what it is to be thankful and blessed no matter how richer or poorer. Lastly, when I read that in Lewis essay Mr. B wants to divorce his wife because he doesn’t find her sexual attractive anymore. This topic I put to last because it’s the number one topic that truly gets me crazy because I know men out there that actually do that to their dearest wives. Now, when it comes to happiness I always do believe in â€Å"second chance†. Why couldn’t Mr. B tell his wife â€Å"Oh, honey lately you haven’t seem to care about yourself why don’t you treat yourself to the spa or get your hair done†. I mean is it that hard to be honest with your love partner? That’s only if you believe in giving â€Å"love† one more try and know that you still love him/her and would do anything to make it work. Therefore, that’s why there are a lot of divorces in America sadly to say. Couples forget the reason why they fell in love with each other from the very start and how great they used to communicate together as a strong loving married couple. It’s obvious that Mr. B was only caring about himself and not his wife. What I do know and I don’t want to sound like Im a know-it-all but because I have family members/friends who’s had that situation before getting divorce for so many reasons; that when two people have long lasting happiness it’s not because they are exclusive but because they trust each other and also have loyalty,  control over themselves, fair-minded, and etc. Even though Lewis obtainable made Mr. B and his mistress bad in his ess ay saying that others should be happy by â€Å"divorcing†. Overall, as what Lewis’ wanted to make his readers point out that the word â€Å"happiness† is a process of what we can achieve only when our interests aren’t based on ourselves but others too. His title of the essay is just like a question; â€Å"Do you believe we have no right to happiness?† It’s a message that Lewis’ sends out to his readers like what do we believe that if we should have the right to be happy. Obviously, we all do have the right no one should feel neglected. Sadly, to say that there are still people today those â€Å"think† they are powerless and can’t achieve anything. But I do strongly disagree on Lewis’ part for his title in the essay â€Å"We have no right to happiness† because I know that based on people’s life can be found happiness in many ways whether they find happiness in life, being rich, or love. Therefore, this topic is very fun and interesting to write about because everyone has their own opinions whether they believe or not that we should have the right to happiness it’s a very good argument.

Mass Genocide Disguised As A Right To Choose - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 789 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/08/06 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Genocide Essay Did you like this example? What is controversy? Without looking at a dictionary, I, by heart, can honestly define it as having many sides or taking a stance on something with more than one stance without being sympathetic to the other side or not taking the other sides arguments into account. Political correctness for instance is controversial, although not the topic I will be discussing in depth today. Gun rights, for the sake of providing examples, is an example. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Mass Genocide Disguised As A Right To Choose" essay for you Create order These topics, in my opinion, can be more flexible as there are legitimate arguments to both for and against them. Abortion, however, is not the same case. At least, not for me. This is exactly why this will be the controversial topic explored in this essay.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Now for me to explain why abortion is objectively wrong, I should probably define what it is first. Abortion is the intentional termination of the unborn fetus during pregnancy or simply killing babies. That should be it right. Notice how I must further argue my case because that is not enough fore the radical left to concede. Killing babies is the reality of what abortion really is. I am repeating myself because again, that is where the argument should end, but I persist, nonetheless.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Let us start with some historical context. Abortion in the U.S was deemed constitutional by the landmark Supreme Court Case, Roe v. Wade in 1973. This case granted the constitutional right for a woman to be able to choose what they do to their body. It also made it a crime for institutions and people alike to restrict the access of abortions. Ever since, it has been fought, rightly, by the other side to be overturned. Going further into the controversy, the clear sides established are of course people who are pro-choice and people who are pro-life. I am pro-life, and I will explain simply by stating the facts. The reality on how abortions are conducted and how the fetus develops in the womb of the mother.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   By week 3, twenty-one days for crying out loud, the babys brain, spinal cord, and heart are already developing. Going on to ending the first trimester, the fetus has already developed its facial features, genitalia, and other essential organs of the human anatomy. Now lets kill this little guy. How? One might ask. One way is by suction aspiration. A tube is entered the womb of the mother and the suction of the tube slowly but surely tears apart the baby while it is alive. Paint the picture. Have you ever had a newborn baby grab onto your thumb with its tiny little fingers? Well, these fingers at this point are developed in the womb and as we speak, are being ripped apart with the power of this suction. Not brutal enough? I got you, as the we, Generation Z would say. If you want to more inhumane, just use a curate and chop that baby down piece by piece and scrape the remains out. A little messy granted, but gets the job done. Keep in mind, this is not fear mongering, it is straight up facts. Oh, almost forgot my favorite method in which the baby is delivered all, but the head. The doctors use forceps to drag the babys out of the birth canal with its legs, stab the babys head with a scissors, and then suction the remains of the skull. That method is called partial-birth abortion. Obviously, I am very passionate about the subject and still in awe that I must acknowledge the counter-argument. So here we go.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   First off, I would like to say that there is no counter-argument that can legitimize or justify the practice of something so disgusting. The common arguments are if it were rape. My response is that it should be legal in that case. I concede to that and that only, but the reality is that only about 1.5 percent of an approximate 600,000 abortions conducted are as a result of rape or incestuous relations in the U.S.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The womens right to choose is a stupid argument if it is to, like I say, justify killing a human. It would be as valid as murder being justified for men. Nonsensical. Those are pretty much the biggest arguments set forth.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Look, do not take my word for it. Do some research. Educate yourself or simply just have some common sense. This is wrong. Killing an innocent human is wrong. By week twenty, the fetus feels pain. Just imagine the pain of getting pinched. That warrants a reaction. If that is true, why wouldnt clipping someones, a babys fingers off as well. From the bottom of my heart, do what is right. Be an advocate for pro-life. End abortions being so prevalent.
